CT Brain Plain - Systematic Review

Technical Adequacy

  • Non-contrast CT brain, axial sections from skull base to vertex
  • Coverage appears complete (cerebellum/posterior fossa through high convexity)
  • Image quality adequate for interpretation from photographic representation

Findings

Brain Parenchyma
  • Gray-white matter differentiation is well preserved throughout both cerebral hemispheres
  • No loss of insular ribbon or cortical ribbon
  • No focal hypodense (infarct/edema) or hyperdense (hemorrhage/calcification) parenchymal lesions identified
Ventricles
  • Lateral ventricles (bilateral), 3rd ventricle, and 4th ventricle are normal in size and configuration
  • No ventriculomegaly or asymmetry
  • No intraventricular hemorrhage or debris
  • No hydrocephalus
Sulci, Gyri & Basal Cisterns
  • Cerebral sulci and gyri appear age-appropriate - no diffuse sulcal effacement to suggest raised ICP or cerebral edema
  • No evidence of significant cortical atrophy
  • Basal cisterns (suprasellar, prepontine, ambient, quadrigeminal) are patent and open
  • Sylvian fissures appear symmetric
Hemorrhage / Infarct / Mass
  • No acute intracranial hemorrhage - no hyperdense extra-axial collections (subdural, epidural), no subarachnoid blood, no intraparenchymal hematoma
  • No acute territorial infarct - no wedge-shaped cortical hypodensity in any vascular territory
  • No space-occupying lesion - no tumor, abscess, or cystic lesion
Midline & Mass Effect
  • Midline structures (septum pellucidum, 3rd ventricle, falx) are central
  • No midline shift
  • No evidence of transtentorial or subfalcine herniation
Posterior Fossa
  • Cerebellum and brainstem appear normal in attenuation
  • 4th ventricle is in normal position and size
Calvarium & Sinuses
  • Bony calvarium appears intact (no obvious fracture on soft-tissue windows)
  • Visualized paranasal sinuses and mastoid air cells appear normally aerated - no air-fluid levels or significant mucosal thickening

Impression

Normal non-contrast CT scan of the brain. No acute intracranial hemorrhage, no acute infarct, no space-occupying lesion, no midline shift, no hydrocephalus.

Disclaimer: This analysis is based on a photographic image of CT films viewed on a light box - not DICOM data on a diagnostic workstation. Subtle findings (small lacunes, early ischemic change, thin subdural collections) may not be fully assessable. Formal reporting by a qualified radiologist with access to original DICOM images and clinical correlation is essential before any clinical decision-making.
