Group1 where to start

Searching the Web

site:psc.ap.gov.in APPSC Group I services syllabus notification PDF 2026

Start with APPSC Group 1 Prelims, while slowly building Mains answer-writing skills.

1. First 3 days: set your base

  1. Download and print the official APPSC Group 1 syllabus.
  2. Collect the previous 5-10 years of APPSC Group 1 question papers.
  3. Make separate notebooks for:
    • History and culture
    • Polity and governance
    • Indian and AP economy
    • Geography
    • Science, environment and technology
    • Andhra Pradesh-specific issues
    • Current affairs
    • Aptitude and reasoning

2. Study order for the first 3 months

Do not begin with random current affairs. Build static basics first.
MonthMain focus
Month 1Indian Polity, AP history and culture, basic arithmetic/reasoning
Month 2Indian history, Indian geography, Andhra Pradesh geography
Month 3Indian economy, AP economy, science, environment, current affairs revision
APPSC Group 1 Prelims broadly includes history and culture, Constitution and social justice, Indian and AP economy, geography, mental ability, science and technology, and current events. The Mains later adds essay, ethics, governance, law, and detailed AP-specific content. Use the official syllabus as your checklist.

3. Daily timetable for a beginner

If studying full-time, target 7-8 focused hours:
  • 2 hours: Main static subject, such as Polity
  • 2 hours: Second subject, such as History or Geography
  • 1 hour: AP-specific topic
  • 1 hour: Current affairs and short notes
  • 1 hour: Aptitude, reasoning, data interpretation
  • 30 minutes: Revise yesterday's notes
  • 30 minutes: Solve previous questions or MCQs
If you work or study college, do 3-4 hours daily, but stay consistent.

4. Start this week

Day 1-3
  • Read the syllabus fully.
  • Analyse one previous prelims paper.
  • Begin Indian Constitution: Preamble, Fundamental Rights, DPSP, Parliament.
Day 4-7
  • Continue Polity: President, Prime Minister, Governor, Chief Minister, State Legislature.
  • Start Andhra Pradesh history and culture.
  • Solve 25-50 MCQs daily.

5. Best preparation rule

For every topic, use this cycle:
Read -> make one-page notes -> solve PYQs/MCQs -> revise after 7 days
Do not collect too many books or join many Telegram groups. One reliable source per subject, the official syllabus, previous papers, revision, and regular tests are enough to begin.

6. Important from the beginning

  • Read one newspaper or reliable daily current-affairs source for 45-60 minutes.
  • Give special attention to Andhra Pradesh economy, geography, history, welfare schemes, government policies, bifurcation-related issues, and current state developments.
  • Start writing one 150-word answer or short essay each week after the first month. Group 1 Mains is descriptive, so answer-writing cannot wait until Prelims results.
  • Take a mock test every Sunday, then spend time understanding mistakes.
Your first subject should be Indian Polity. It is structured, scoring, useful for both Prelims and Mains, and gives confidence early.
