Why some bra have simple number and some have number in fraction?

Those are usually two sizing systems shown together, not a fraction.
  • 32, 34, 36: band size measured in inches, common in US/UK sizing.
  • 70, 75, 80: the equivalent band size in centimetres, common in European/Asian sizing.
For example:
  • 34B / 75B means the same approximate bra size:
    • 34 = underbust band in inches
    • 75 = equivalent European band size in cm
    • B = cup size
Sometimes a label may show only one number if it uses one regional sizing system. The cup letter still matters: 34B and 34D have the same band size but different cup volumes.

  • Your girlfriend’s 42/95 means only the band size: 42 in UK/US sizing, about 95 in EU sizing.
  • Her actual full size should look like 42C, 42D, or 95E, etc.
  • Her mother’s “38” is also incomplete unless there is a cup letter somewhere, such as 38D, 38DD, or 38F.
The band number measures the rib cage below the breasts, not breast size. A person can have a 42 band with smaller breasts if they have a wider rib cage, while another can have a 38 band with much larger breasts if their cup letter is much larger.
For example:
  • 42B: wider band, relatively smaller cup
  • 38F: narrower band, much larger cup
