What to do each day

Morning

  1. Read the topic once for understanding.
  2. Make a one-page list of:
    • Attachments and actions of muscles
    • Nerve supply
    • Arterial supply and venous drainage
    • Relations
    • Applied anatomy

Afternoon

  • Draw at least 3 labeled diagrams.
  • Learn important tables such as:
    • Branches of arteries
    • Branches of nerves
    • Contents of spaces, canals, and foramina
    • Differences between similar structures
  • Answer 5-10 previous university questions from that region.

Evening practical session

  • Identify 10-15 bones/specimens/slides daily.
  • Practise saying the answer aloud in viva format:
    • Identify
    • Side
    • Features
    • Attachments/relations
    • Applied anatomy

Final 3-day high-yield rule

From Day 13 onward, spend extra time on:
  • Brachial plexus and lumbosacral plexus
  • Inguinal canal
  • Portal vein and portosystemic anastomoses
  • Heart and coronary circulation
  • Cranial nerves
  • Cavernous sinus
  • Circle of Willis
  • Histology slides
  • Embryological derivatives and congenital anomalies
  • Osteology viva questions
Use active recall rather than rereading: close the book, draw structures from memory, and answer short viva prompts. Recent education reviews support using visual and applied-anatomy learning alongside standard study methods, including radiology-based learning (systematic review).

  • Hip joint
  • Knee joint
  • Heart and coronary circulation
  • Conducting system of heart
  • Pleura and lungs

Paper II weightage focus

Prioritize:
  • Protein and amino acid metabolism: 10 marks
  • Nucleotide metabolism: 10 marks
  • Molecular biology: 10 marks
  • Heme metabolism: 10 marks
  • Organ function tests: 10 marks
  • Molecular biology techniques: 8 marks

Days 14-15: Final Revision

DayTasks
Day 14: Organ function tests and practical revisionRevise liver, renal, thyroid, pancreatic and cardiac-function tests. Learn normal reference ranges, specimen types, principles of common tests, quality control, lab errors, automation, biosafety, and clinical case interpretation. Complete 50 mixed MCQs and 2 hours of practical/viva revision.
Day 15: Full Paper II mock and rapid revisionMorning: write a timed 3-hour Paper II mock. Afternoon: correct answers and rewrite weak pathways. Evening: revise all pathways, rate-limiting enzymes, coenzymes, vitamin deficiencies, inherited disorders, normal values, practical procedures, and case-based MCQs. Sleep well.

Must-write pathways from memory

Practise these every day until you can write the steps, enzymes, regulation, energy yield, and one clinical correlation:
  1. Glycolysis
  2. TCA cycle
  3. HMP shunt
  4. Glycogenesis and glycogenolysis
  5. Gluconeogenesis
  6. Beta-oxidation
  7. Fatty-acid synthesis
  8. Ketone-body synthesis and utilization
  9. Cholesterol synthesis
  10. Urea cycle
  11. Purine synthesis and degradation
  12. Heme synthesis and bilirubin metabolism
  13. DNA replication, transcription, and translation

High-yield clinical cases to revise

  • Diabetes mellitus and diabetic ketoacidosis
  • G6PD deficiency
  • Galactosemia and hereditary fructose intolerance
  • Hyperlipidemia and atherosclerosis
  • Alcoholic liver disease
  • Vitamin B12, folate, iron, and vitamin D deficiency
  • Acid-base imbalance
  • Phenylketonuria and alkaptonuria
  • Gout and Lesch-Nyhan syndrome
  • Jaundice and liver-function-test interpretation
  • Renal failure and renal-function tests
  • Molecular diagnosis using PCR

Exam-writing rule

For every 10-mark answer, use this sequence:
  1. Definition or introduction
  2. Pathway/flowchart or classification
  3. Key enzymes and regulation
  4. Clinical or applied correlation
  5. Brief conclusion or significance
Use headings, underlining, and clean labeled pathway diagrams. For case-based MCQs, identify the key clue first, then connect it to the pathway, enzyme, vitamin, metabolite, or test involved.
