Do you know anything about dead hangs or something like that man or woman will hang to wear in the air for that thing? Even after the age where the person cannot increase their height, she increased her height.

"intervertebral disc"[MeSH Terms] AND "body height"[MeSH Terms]

Dead hangs can make you slightly taller for a few hours. They can't add permanent height once the growth plates have closed.
What actually changes
  • Hanging from a bar pulls the spine apart (axial traction) and unloads the intervertebral discs. The discs can take up fluid and the spine lengthens a little. Some of this is measurable.
  • Your height already varies through the day. You're usually about 1 to 2 cm taller in the morning, and gravity and sitting squeeze the discs as the day goes on. A hang does a small, short version of the morning gain.
  • The effect reverses within minutes to hours. A review of the evidence says the unloading lasts only while you're on the bar. It also says randomized trials don't support claims of lasting spinal decompression.
Why bone length can't change in adults
  • Height gain in children comes from the epiphyseal growth plates at the ends of the long bones. After puberty, sex steroids close these plates. This usually happens around 14 to 16 in girls and 16 to 18 in boys.
  • Textbooks describe early closure as the problem in precocious puberty, where adult height is lost. - Harrison's Principles of Internal Medicine 22E
  • Delayed closure can occur in conditions like hypogonadism. - Textbook of Family Medicine 9e
  • Once the plates are closed, no hanging, stretching or exercise reopens them.
Why someone might report gaining height
  1. Posture. Hanging, stretching and core work can reduce slouching or a rounded upper back. That can add roughly 1 to 3 cm to measured height without any bone growth.
  2. Measurement. Time of day, shoes, hair and how the person stands all change the reading. Measuring in the morning versus the evening can account for 1 to 2 cm by itself.
  3. Late growth. Some people have delayed puberty, so their plates are still open at 18 to 20 or later. They would have grown anyway, and the hanging gets the credit.
  4. Surgery. Limb-lengthening surgery is the one real way to add bone length in adults. It is major surgery with significant risks.
I can't say who the person you heard about is, so I can't say which of these applies to her. If you can tell me who it was or where you heard it, I can look at that claim specifically. A claim of permanent growth in an adult with closed plates is almost certainly one of the explanations above.
Safety Dead hangs are generally safe if you build up gradually. They are mainly good for grip strength and shoulder mobility. People with shoulder instability, recent surgery or uncontrolled blood pressure should check with a clinician first.
I searched PubMed for recent systematic reviews on disc height and body height. I found nothing showing that hanging produces permanent height gain.

"spinal traction" OR "inversion" AND "body height" stature change

I don't know of any official world record for height gained from dead hangs, and my searches found none. Guinness doesn't appear to track this category. Anyone claiming a "record" is almost certainly quoting an unverified social media post.
What measured data shows
  • Hanging: One fitness-education source estimates that a hang adds roughly 1 to 2 mm of spinal height and that this fades within hours. This is a secondary source, not a trial, so treat the exact figure loosely.
  • Posture work: The same source says that 8 to 12 weeks of posterior chain strengthening can realistically give 1 to 3 cm in people with significant postural problems. That is a recovery of lost height, not new growth.
  • Daily variation: Your height normally changes by about 1 to 2 cm between morning and evening, and that is about the largest effect you can expect from the spine alone.
  • Inversion traction: I found one older study (Ballantyne 1986) on how inversion traction changes spinal configuration. It was a small physical-therapy study, and I didn't find the height figures it reported.
Where the larger claims come from Stories of gains of 5 cm or more are usually one of these:
  • the person was measured slouched and then standing tall
  • the before and after measurements were taken at different times of day
  • the person's growth plates were still open, as in delayed puberty
  • the gain came from surgical limb lengthening, which is the only proven way to add bone length in adults
Adults with scoliosis or a severe forward curve can look noticeably taller after treatment, because straightening the spine uses up length that the curve had taken. That is also not new bone growth.
I can't back up a specific record number. If you saw a figure somewhere, tell me where and I'll look at that claim.
