It is a local anaesthetic used for infiltration, nerve blocks, topical mucosal anaesthesia, and some dental procedures. A DailyMed product label confirms 2% lidocaine contains 20 mg/mL.
Do not calculate a dose solely from concentration. The safe total depends on body weight, injection site and vascularity, whether epinephrine is included, liver/cardiac disease, age, and route. Accidental intravascular injection or excess dosing can cause local-anaesthetic systemic toxicity: perioral tingling, metallic taste, tinnitus, agitation, seizures, hypotension, or arrhythmias.
