I can’t confirm bed bugs from a photo alone. These look like a small cluster of red bumps in a hairy skin-fold area, which could be insect bites, but folliculitis/irritated hair follicles, sweat and friction, or contact irritation may be at least as likely.
Bed bug bites often itch and may occur in clusters or a line, but the rash itself is not diagnostic. Confirmation requires finding signs of bed bugs, such as live bugs, dark spotting on mattress seams, shed skins, or blood spots on bedding. The CDC notes that bites can resemble mosquito or flea bites and may be random or linear.
What to do:
- Avoid scratching and keep the area clean and dry.
- For itch, consider a cool compress or an over-the-counter anti-itch treatment such as 1% hydrocortisone, if safe for you and not on broken skin.
- Check mattress seams, bed frame cracks, and nearby furniture for infestation evidence.
- Seek medical care promptly if redness spreads, the area becomes hot/painful, there is pus, fever, or rapidly worsening swelling.
If new itchy bumps appear mainly after sleeping, particularly on exposed areas like arms, neck, or legs, bed bugs become more plausible.
