Do NOT try to force the eye open or pull the eyelid apart - this can tear tissue
Flush with warm water for 15-20 minutes continuously - this is the most important first step
If eyelids are stuck shut, apply a warm wet cloth and hold gently - the glue often loosens on its own within 1-4 hours
Do NOT use acetone/nail polish remover near the eye
Go to an emergency room or eye doctor immediately - even if flushing seems to help
Super glue (cyanoacrylate) bonds rapidly to moist tissue. The good news is it tends not to bond to the eye itself as strongly as to skin, and tears/moisture help dissolve it over time. However, corneal abrasions and eyelid adhesion are real risks requiring professional care.
Call 911 or go to the ER now if:
You have significant pain or vision changes
Eyelids are firmly stuck together
Any glue got directly on the eyeball
