Vomikind Tablet - Ondansetron Dosing

Vomikind is a brand name for Ondansetron (4 mg and 8 mg tablets/ODT), a 5-HT3 serotonin receptor antagonist used as an antiemetic.

  • Frequency: typically every 8 hours as needed
  • Hepatic impairment: dose reduction may be required (max 8 mg/day)

Key Safety Points

  • QT prolongation risk - dose-dependent; check ECG in at-risk patients (elderly, electrolyte abnormalities)
  • Correct potassium and magnesium before administration (FDA recommendation)
  • Avoid in patients on other serotonergic agents (risk of serotonin toxicity)
  • Promethazine (a competing antiemetic) carries an FDA boxed warning against use in children <2 years - ondansetron is the preferred choice in pediatrics
