If you mean pus cells (white blood cells) in urine on microscopy:
- Male: usually <2 pus cells/WBCs per high-power field (HPF)
- Female: usually <5 pus cells/WBCs per HPF
A small number can be normal, especially in females due to sample contamination. Higher counts may suggest a urinary infection or inflammation, but need interpretation with symptoms, urine culture, and proper clean-catch collection. AAFP urinalysis reference and Henry's Clinical Diagnosis and Management by Laboratory Methods state that fewer than 5 leukocytes/HPF are generally seen in normal urine.
