Chymoral Forte contains two proteolytic enzymes, not conventional “salts”:
- Trypsin 48 mg
- Chymotrypsin 100,000 Armour units

Uses: It is prescribed as an adjunct to help reduce swelling (edema), inflammation, bruising, and soft-tissue pain, commonly after injury, dental work, surgery, or musculoskeletal inflammation. Trypsin and chymotrypsin are protein-digesting enzymes. They are normally pancreatic enzymes involved in protein digestion, as described in Basic Medical Biochemistry - A Clinical Approach, p. relevant digestion section.
Important points
- It is not an antibiotic and does not treat infection itself.
- It is not a standard primary painkiller like paracetamol or ibuprofen, though reducing swelling may improve pain.
- Take it only as directed. Enteric-coated tablets should generally be swallowed whole, not crushed or chewed.
- Possible effects include nausea, diarrhea, stomach upset, rash, or allergy.
- Ask a clinician before using it if you have a bleeding disorder, stomach ulcer, significant liver/kidney disease, are pregnant/breastfeeding, or use blood-thinning medicines such as warfarin, apixaban, rivaroxaban, aspirin, or clopidogrel.
- Seek urgent care for facial swelling, breathing difficulty, black stools, unusual bleeding, or a severe rash.
Evidence for oral enzyme combinations in swelling is mixed and they should not replace evaluation for severe pain, fever, redness, pus, or worsening swelling.
