"One thing the student must always remember that it is not the varicose veins which produce the symptoms, but it is the disordered psychology which is the root of all evils. So it is not impossible to come across asymptomatic varicose veins on one side and severe symptoms with very few visible varicose veins on the other side."
-
Psychology drives symptoms, not vein size. A patient's perception of pain and discomfort is heavily influenced by their psychological state - anxiety, health anxiety, or heightened pain sensitivity can amplify symptoms far beyond what the physical findings would suggest.
-
Asymptomatic varicose veins on one side - A patient can have large, visibly prominent varicose veins on one leg and feel no pain at all.
-
Severe symptoms with minimal visible veins on the other side - The same patient can have very few or small varicose veins on the other leg but complain of intense aching, heaviness, and discomfort.
