  • Adrenal: cortex has three zones, medulla central with chromaffin cells.
  • Lymph node: capsule, cortex with follicles, paracortex, medullary cords and sinuses.
  • Spleen: white pulp around central arteriole and red pulp with sinusoids.
  • Trachea: pseudostratified ciliated columnar epithelium, hyaline cartilage, submucosal glands.
  • Lung: alveoli, thin septa, no cartilage in alveolar region.
  • Duodenum: Brunner glands in submucosa.
  • Ileum: Peyer patches.

RGUHS 1st MBBS Anatomy Paper 2: Systemic Histology

Systemic histology carries about 11 marks in Paper 2, so revise it smartly, but do not sacrifice abdomen (28 marks), pelvis (20), and lower limb (17). The current RGUHS blueprint also notes that system-wise marks are indicative and can vary, while the last 10 questions are case-based MCQs worth 20 marks. See the RGUHS Paper II blueprint.

Most important because of overlap with abdomen.

  • Stomach: fundus/body, pylorus, gastric glands and cell types
  • Duodenum: Brunner glands
  • Jejunum vs ileum: villi and Peyer patches
  • Colon: no villi, numerous goblet cells, straight crypts
  • Appendix: lymphoid follicles
  • Liver: classical hepatic lobule, portal triad, sinusoids, Kupffer cells

Final warning

For Paper 2, systemic histology is a scoring short section, but abdomen, pelvis, and lower limb must remain your main priority. Use systemic histology for quick, clean marks by mastering slide features, comparisons, and diagrams rather than reading every microscopic detail.
