NIH Office Dietary Supplements iron calcium vitamin C zinc fact sheet absorption interactions

From the photo, I can identify:
  1. Feronix XT Pro: ferrous fumarate (iron) + folic acid + zinc
  2. Becoplex Forte: B-complex vitamins
  3. Calmaxx-D3 60,000 IU: cholecalciferol (vitamin D3), high-dose capsule
  4. Theocal-500: calcium + vitamin D3
  5. Limcee-type chewable: vitamin C + zinc

A practical schedule

TimeTakeHow
Morning, after breakfastBecoplex ForteWith water and food. This helps prevent nausea.
Mid-morning or bedtimeFeronix XT ProBest with water or a vitamin-C drink. Keep it at least 2 hours away from calcium, milk, tea, coffee, or antacids.
After lunch or dinnerTheocal-500Take with a meal. Do not take it with the iron tablet.
Once weekly only, after a main mealCalmaxx-D3 60,000 IUTake on the same day each week, with lunch or dinner that contains some fat. Use only at the frequency prescribed.
Optional, with/after foodVitamin C + zinc chewableDo not routinely combine with Feronix unless your prescriber told you to, because Feronix already contains zinc.

Example day

  • 8 AM, after breakfast: Becoplex Forte
  • 3 PM or 10 PM: Feronix XT Pro
  • 8 PM, after dinner: Theocal-500
  • Every Sunday after dinner: Calmaxx-D3 60,000 IU, if prescribed weekly

Important cautions

  • Do not take Feronix and Theocal together. Calcium reduces iron absorption. Vitamin C can improve iron absorption, while calcium, tea, coffee, and fiber can reduce it. Goldman-Cecil discussion of oral iron and the NIH supplement guidance support separating iron from calcium.
  • Calmaxx-D3 60,000 IU is not a daily vitamin. It is usually prescribed weekly or sometimes less often depending on your vitamin-D level. Taking it daily can cause harmful high calcium levels.
  • You may be doubling up on zinc by using both Feronix XT Pro and the vitamin C-zinc tablet. Long-term excessive zinc can cause copper deficiency and other problems. See the NIH zinc fact sheet.
  • Iron commonly causes nausea, constipation, dark stools, or stomach discomfort. If it upsets your stomach, take it with a small non-dairy snack, though absorption may be a little lower.
  • If you take levothyroxine for thyroid, or antibiotics such as doxycycline, ciprofloxacin, or levofloxacin, keep iron and calcium at least 4 hours apart from them unless your clinician has given specific instructions.
Because there are overlapping ingredients here, particularly zinc and vitamin D, follow the prescription duration and doses rather than taking every product daily by default.
