gentamicin ceftriaxone Y site compatibility infusion compatibility
No. Do not mix gentamicin and ceftriaxone in the same infusion bag or syringe. Compatibility references list the combination as incompatible, meaning precipitation or loss of drug stability may occur (Stabilis compatibility listing).
If both are prescribed, give them:
Through separate IV lines/lumens, or
Sequentially through the same line, with a compatible fluid flush before and after each drug.
Do not assume Y-site co-infusion is safe unless your hospital pharmacy’s current compatibility database specifically verifies the exact formulations, concentrations, and diluents being used.
