CDC rabies immune globulin dose 20 IU/kg maximum amount
Human rabies immunoglobulin (HRIG): 20 IU/kg body weight, once. There is no fixed absolute maximum dose. Do not exceed the calculated 20 IU/kg dose, because excess can reduce the immune response to rabies vaccine.
Infiltrate as much as possible into and around all wounds.
Give any remainder IM at a site distant from the vaccine.
For a correction after inadequate wound infiltration, the total HRIG exposure must not exceed 40 IU/kg. CDC PEP guidance
Not indicated if the person was previously vaccinated against rabies.
