This is an essentially normal 2D echocardiogram.

Key findings

  • Heart chambers: Normal size, including left and right atria and ventricles.
  • Heart pumping function: Normal.
    • LVEF: 63%. This is a normal left-ventricular ejection fraction, meaning the main pumping chamber is contracting well.
    • Right-ventricular function is also reported as normal.
  • Heart valves: Mitral, aortic, tricuspid, and pulmonary valves are normal, with no leakage (regurgitation) reported and no evidence of significant narrowing.
  • Heart muscle motion: No regional wall-motion abnormality at rest. This means there is no resting echo sign of prior heart-muscle damage or an obvious area receiving inadequate blood flow.
  • Pulmonary artery pressure: Normal, with no echo evidence of pulmonary hypertension.
  • Heart structure: Normal cardiac position and normal septa. No atrial or ventricular septal defect seen.
  • Aorta, IVC, and pericardium: Normal in the visualized portions.
  • Fluid/clot: No obvious intracardiac clot and no pericardial effusion (no excess fluid around the heart).

Measurements

The reported measurements, including LV internal dimensions, wall thickness, left-atrial size, aortic-root size, and Doppler velocities, are consistent with the cardiologist’s impression of a normal study.

What “correlate clinically with ECG” means

An echocardiogram assesses heart structure and pumping, but it does not rule out electrical rhythm problems or all coronary artery issues. The ECG should be interpreted alongside symptoms and examination findings.

Bottom line

No significant structural heart abnormality is reported. The echo shows normal heart size, valves, pressures, and pumping function.

A resting heart rate of 100 beats/min with palpitations is at the threshold for tachycardia. Given the normal echocardiogram, the heart’s structure, valves, and pumping strength look reassuring, but an echo does not identify intermittent rhythm disturbances.

What should be checked next

  • 12-lead ECG soon, ideally while symptoms are present.
  • If the ECG is normal but episodes recur: 24-48 hour Holter monitor or a longer event monitor to capture the rhythm during palpitations.
  • Basic clinical review and tests for common reversible causes:
    • CBC, to look for anemia
    • TSH/free T4, to assess thyroid overactivity
    • Electrolytes, especially potassium, magnesium, calcium
    • Fever/infection, dehydration, pain, poor sleep, anxiety
    • Caffeine/energy drinks, nicotine/vaping, alcohol, recreational drugs, decongestants, inhalers, stimulant or thyroid medicines
A resting rate around 100 may simply be sinus tachycardia, meaning the normal pacemaker is beating faster because of a trigger. However, the ECG is needed to distinguish that from rhythms such as frequent extra beats, SVT, atrial fibrillation/flutter, or less commonly other arrhythmias. The American Heart Association overview also notes ECG plus tests for thyroid disease, anemia, and electrolyte abnormalities as part of palpitation assessment.

Seek urgent care now if palpitations occur with

  • chest pain/pressure
  • fainting or near-fainting
  • significant breathlessness
  • confusion, severe weakness, or clamminess
  • a sustained resting rate well above 120-130/min, especially if worsening or irregular
Until assessed, avoid energy drinks and excess caffeine, nicotine, alcohol binges, and non-prescribed stimulants; hydrate normally. If possible, record the pulse during symptoms: rate, whether it feels regular or irregular, duration, trigger, and any associated symptoms. This makes ECG/Holter interpretation much more useful.
