KDIGO 2024 CKD guideline SGLT2 inhibitors RAS blockade blood pressure PDF

Nefrosave is an adjunctive, not core treatment, in CKD. The exact formulation matters:
  • Nefrosave tablet commonly contains N-acetylcysteine (NAC) plus taurine. These have antioxidant actions and may reduce oxidative stress and possibly albuminuria/protein leakage in some patients, especially diabetic or hypertensive CKD.
  • Some branded variants contain different ingredients, such as NAC plus pyridoxamine or ketoanalogues. Ketoanalogues have a separate role: with a nephrologist-supervised low-protein diet, they can help maintain nutrition and lower nitrogenous waste in selected advanced CKD patients.

What it can and cannot do

  • It may be prescribed as supportive therapy for proteinuria or renal protection.
  • It is not proven to replace treatments that clearly slow CKD progression.
  • It should not be relied on to reduce creatinine, reverse CKD, or avoid dialysis by itself. Evidence for NAC-taurine combinations in CKD remains limited and evolving, as summarized by Apollo Pharmacy's product information.

Treatments that matter more in CKD

Depending on the cause and stage, these include:
  • Tight blood-pressure control, often with an ACE inhibitor or ARB when albuminuria is present
  • SGLT2 inhibitor therapy for eligible people, with or without diabetes
  • Good diabetes control, salt restriction, avoiding NSAID painkillers, and monitoring potassium, eGFR, urine albumin, hemoglobin, and bone-mineral parameters.
The KDIGO 2024 CKD guideline places RAS blockade and SGLT2 inhibitors, where indicated, among the evidence-based therapies that delay CKD progression.

Practical caution

Use Nefrosave only if your clinician has recommended the specific version and dose. Tell them about all medicines, especially antibiotics and diuretics. Nausea, abdominal discomfort, headache, or dizziness can occur. If you have worsening swelling, breathlessness, reduced urine, high potassium, or a rapidly rising creatinine, seek medical assessment rather than increasing supplements.
