By mistake, a underage account is added in my family member group of Gmail. I want to remove this account, but I am not able to remove this account because the account is underage. How can I remove this account from my family link group?

Family Link remove supervised child account family group

Google Family Link treats accounts differently depending on the child's age, and that's why you're stuck. Here's what's actually happening and how to fix it:

Why you can't just "remove" the account

For a supervised child under 13 (or the age of digital consent in your country), Google does not allow you to simply detach them from the family group the way you can with a regular adult member. Your only two options are:
  1. Delete the child's Google Account entirely, or
  2. Transfer supervision to another parent/guardian
There is no "leave family group" button for accounts under this age threshold - this is a Google policy, not a bug.

Option 1: Delete the child's account (if you created it and no longer want it to exist)

  1. Go to Family Link (or open the Family Link app) and sign in with your parent/manager account.
  2. Select the child's account.
  3. Tap Controls -> Account settings -> About supervision (Google recently moved this option here) -> Delete account (older versions show it directly under Account settings).
  4. Follow the prompts - it will warn you that this permanently deletes the Google Account and all its data (Gmail, Drive, etc.), not just the family membership.

Option 2: Transfer supervision to someone else

If the account should stay alive but under another parent's management (e.g., the child actually belongs to a relative, not you):
  1. In Family Link, select the child -> Controls -> Account settings -> About supervision.
  2. Look for Transfer supervision and follow the steps to hand it to another Google Account that's willing to manage it.
  3. Once transferred, it disappears from your family group.

Option 3: If the account isn't actually a minor's account (age entered wrongly)

If this was added by mistake and the person is really 13+ (or your country's applicable age) but Family Link thinks they're younger:
  • You generally cannot just edit the birthday upward past the supervision threshold from your side - Google blocks that to prevent circumventing child-safety rules.
  • The person themselves (or you, if you know their real birthdate/credentials) may need to contact Google Account recovery/support to verify age and request supervision removal, since only accounts that cross the age threshold get an automatic "graduate to non-child account" email from Google.
  • Practically, the fastest fix is often Option 1 (delete the account) if it was mistakenly created, and have the person create a fresh regular Google account with the correct birthdate instead of trying to fix supervision on the existing one.

If you're trying to delete the whole family group

Google requires you to resolve the child's account first (delete it or transfer supervision) - you cannot delete a family group while a supervised under-13 account is still a member. Once that's done, go to g.co/YourFamily -> Delete family group.
One more note: if you delete/leave a family group, Google only lets you create or join another one once every 12 months, so double check this is the outcome you want before proceeding.
