Netromycin is netilmicin, an injectable aminoglycoside antibiotic. For a 2-year-old, it is not usually dosed as 25 mg/kg.

Typical pediatric dosing is 6 to 7.5 mg/kg/day IV or IM, usually divided every 8 hours, equivalent to about 2 to 2.5 mg/kg per dose every 8 hours. A 25 mg vial/ampoule strength does not mean the child should receive 25 mg. The exact amount needs the child’s current weight, infection being treated, and kidney function.

Example only: if a child weighs 12 kg, a 2 to 2.5 mg/kg dose is 24 to 30 mg per dose every 8 hours.

Do not give netilmicin without a pediatric clinician’s prescription and monitoring. It can affect the kidneys and hearing, and the dose or interval must be adjusted in kidney impairment.
