DailyMed enalapril maleate pediatric patients usual recommended starting dose 0.08 mg/kg

For pediatric hypertension in children older than 1 month, the usual oral enalapril starting dose is:
  • 0.08 mg/kg once daily
  • Maximum starting dose: 5 mg once daily
  • Adjust only under a pediatric clinician's supervision based on blood pressure, kidney function, and potassium.
  • Doses above 0.58 mg/kg/day or 40 mg/day have not been studied in children. DailyMed prescribing information
Do not use routinely in neonates (age 1 month or less), preterm infants not yet at 44 weeks corrected age, or children with eGFR below 30 mL/min/1.73 m². Blood pressure, serum creatinine, and potassium need monitoring after starting or changing the dose.
The dose may differ if it is being used for heart failure, kidney disease/proteinuria, or a heart condition. Do not calculate a tablet dose without the child’s weight, indication, current blood pressure, kidney function, and tablet strength.
