For stroke, the usual term is TIA, not TSA.
- TIA = transient ischemic attack: temporary focal neurologic symptoms from interrupted brain blood flow, without established infarction on imaging.
- It is often called a “mini-stroke,” but it is a warning sign of possible imminent stroke and needs urgent assessment.
- TSA is not a standard modern abbreviation for stroke. Sometimes people use it informally for “transient stroke attack,” but clinicians generally use TIA.
If someone has current or recent facial droop, arm weakness/numbness, speech trouble, vision loss, severe imbalance, or sudden severe headache, seek emergency care immediately, even if symptoms resolve.
