Inflammation of the hoof is called laminitis (also known as founder).
It refers to inflammation of the sensitive laminae (lamellae) within the hoof - the tissue layers that bond the hoof wall to the pedal bone (coffin bone). It most commonly affects horses, ponies, cattle, and other hooved animals.
