paracetamol injection IM intramuscular route available

Paracetamol Injection - 13 Years Old, 40 kg

Important Note on IM Route

Paracetamol IM injection exists in some countries (e.g., parts of Africa, South/Southeast Asia) as a 150 mg/mL formulation, but it is NOT approved or available in the US, UK, EU, or Australia. In those regions, only the IV infusion form (10 mg/mL, e.g., Perfalgan) is licensed.
  • If you are in a country where the 150 mg/mL IM formulation is available (e.g., JB Pharma Ifimol, Philopara), the following applies.

Warnings

  • Hepatotoxicity risk - do NOT exceed maximum daily dose
  • Avoid in patients with liver disease or malnutrition
  • Benzyl alcohol is present in some IM formulations - avoid in neonates (not relevant here at 13 yrs)
  • IM route is less preferred than IV due to variable absorption; use IV when available
  • The IM form is not available in most Western countries - always confirm local formulary
