Ultracet tramadol paracetamol official prescribing information uses warnings

Ultracet is a prescription painkiller containing:
  • Tramadol 37.5 mg: an opioid-type analgesic
  • Paracetamol (acetaminophen) 325 mg: a non-opioid pain and fever medicine
It is used for short-term treatment of moderate to moderately severe acute pain, such as pain after injury, dental procedures, or surgery.
Important safety points:
  • Can cause drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, constipation, and impaired driving.
  • Do not combine it with alcohol, sleeping tablets, benzodiazepines, or other sedatives unless specifically prescribed. The combination can dangerously slow breathing.
  • Do not take other paracetamol/acetaminophen or tramadol products at the same time unless a clinician confirms the total dose is safe. Excess paracetamol can cause severe liver failure.
  • Tramadol can cause dependence, withdrawal if stopped abruptly after ongoing use, seizures in susceptible people, and potentially dangerous serotonin-related interactions with some antidepressants.
  • Seek emergency care for slow or shallow breathing, extreme sleepiness, confusion, blue lips, facial swelling, or suspected overdose.
The US product labeling describes Ultracet as tramadol plus acetaminophen and highlights risks of opioid misuse, respiratory depression, liver toxicity, and sedative interactions in the FDA prescribing information. A 2025 systematic review also found that tramadol, with or without acetaminophen, has meaningful harms that must be weighed against its pain benefit (review, PMID 40940161).
