DJI OM 6 gimbal how to use guide

That's a DJI Osmo Mobile 6 (OM 6) — a 3-axis smartphone gimbal stabilizer. Here's how to use it:

Setup

  1. Unfold it — extend the arm and handle from its folded/compact position.
  2. Attach your phone — clip your phone into the magnetic phone clamp at the top. The clamp snaps onto the magnetic mount on the gimbal head. Make sure it's balanced horizontally.
  3. Power on — press and hold the power button (the circular button on the front panel) until the indicator lights up.

Key Shooting Modes

  • Follow Mode (default) — gimbal follows your pan and tilt movements
  • FPV Mode — all axes follow your movement for immersive footage
  • Lock Mode — camera stays locked on one direction regardless of handle movement
  • Selfie / Vlog Mode — rotate the phone 180° to face you

App

Download the DJI Mimo app to unlock smart features:
  • ActiveTrack 5.0 — automatically tracks a subject and keeps them in frame
  • Gesture control — wave to start recording hands-free
  • Hyperlapse / Timelapse — cinematic time effects
  • Panorama — automated wide shots
The LightCut app is also compatible for AI-assisted video editing.

Tips

  • Always balance your phone before powering on — less motor strain = longer battery life
  • Charge via the USB-C port at the bottom of the handle
  • The gimbal folds compactly for travel — fold it back the same way it came

It connects with bluetooth

Yes, exactly! The DJI Osmo Mobile 6 connects to your phone via Bluetooth. Here's how to pair it:

Bluetooth Pairing

  1. Power on the gimbal — press and hold the power button until it turns on
  2. Enable Bluetooth on your phone (Settings → Bluetooth)
  3. Open the DJI Mimo app — the app handles the Bluetooth connection automatically
  4. The app will detect the gimbal and prompt you to connect — tap to pair
  5. Once connected, the gimbal's display will show it's linked and you can control everything from the app

What Bluetooth Enables

  • Remote shutter — the orange button on the gimbal triggers your phone's camera
  • ActiveTrack — the gimbal motors respond to subject tracking in the app
  • Mode switching — the M button changes modes within the Mimo app
  • Zoom — the side slider controls digital zoom through the app
  • Joystick control — panning/tilting via the joystick syncs with the app's camera view

If It Won't Connect

  • Make sure the Mimo app has Bluetooth permission granted in your phone's settings
  • Try forgetting the device in your phone's Bluetooth settings and re-pairing through the app
  • Keep the phone within ~10 meters of the gimbal
  • A firmware update (done through Mimo) can fix connection issues
The Mimo app is the key — most features won't work without it connected over Bluetooth.
