No. Doxycycline is not indicated for confirmed uncomplicated dengue, because dengue is viral and treatment is supportive: fluids as needed, acetaminophen for fever, monitoring for warning signs and bleeding. Avoid aspirin and NSAIDs because of bleeding risk. Brenner and Rector's The Kidney, p. 3681-3692.
Doxycycline may be appropriate only if there is a separate suspected or confirmed bacterial illness, especially a dengue mimic or co-infection such as rickettsial disease, leptospirosis, or certain bacterial pneumonias, based on clinical findings and local epidemiology. It should not be given routinely just for dengue-associated fever or thrombocytopenia.
Urgently assess if there is abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, mucosal bleeding, lethargy/restlessness, breathing difficulty, reduced urine output, or worsening around defervescence.
