• Do not exceed 80 mg in 24 hours
• Take only as long as symptoms persist; not for long-term daily use without investigation
• Avoid if known allergy to hyoscine or anticholinergic drugs

Contraindications to screen before prescribing:

• Glaucoma (narrow-angle)
• Urinary retention / enlarged prostate
• Myasthenia gravis
• Paralytic ileus / intestinal obstruction

• HNBB (Buscopan/Scopolamine butylbromide) is an anticholinergic antispasmodic that blocks muscarinic receptors on GI smooth muscle, reducing spasm and colicky pain
• Standard adult dose: 20 mg (2 x 10 mg tablets) up to 4 times daily as per NHS/Buscopan guidelines and icliniq dosing reference
• For IBS: start at 10 mg three times daily, increase to 20 mg four times daily if needed
• Onset of action: ~30-60 minutes orally
