Yes. An i-pill (levonorgestrel emergency contraceptive) can cause:
- Light vaginal spotting or bleeding a few days after taking it
- Your next period to come earlier or later than usual
- A period that is lighter or heavier than usual
This is a common temporary hormone effect. The next period usually occurs within about a week of its expected date. The FDA notes that spotting and changes in menstrual flow can occur after levonorgestrel emergency contraception.
Take a home pregnancy test if your period is more than 7 days late, is unusually light, or you have pregnancy symptoms. Seek urgent medical care for severe one-sided lower-abdominal pain, fainting/dizziness, or very heavy bleeding, as these need assessment.

Because you took i-pill on 22 August and it is now 29 August, light bleeding or spotting can be a normal side effect of the hormone in the emergency pill. It can also make the next period come early, late, lighter, or heavier. Fingering may have simply made you notice bleeding that was already starting.
It could also be a small irritation or scratch from fingering, especially if there was dryness, long/sharp nails, or vigorous insertion. This usually causes a small amount of fresh red blood and settles within a day or two.
What to do:
- Avoid fingering, penetrative sex, tampons, or anything inside the vagina until bleeding has stopped.
- Use a pad and note whether it is only spotting or becoming like a period.
- Do a home urine pregnancy test on or after 12 September (3 weeks after the sex that led you to take i-pill), or earlier if your period is over 7 days late. Emergency contraception reduces risk but is not 100% effective.
Get urgent medical care if you have severe or one-sided lower-abdominal pain, fainting/dizziness, shoulder-tip pain, fever, foul-smelling discharge, or heavy bleeding such as soaking a pad every hour for 2 hours. Also arrange a gynecology visit if bleeding continues more than a few days, repeatedly occurs after fingering/sex, or you are worried.
This bleeding alone does not confirm or rule out pregnancy.
