ACSM exercise hydration fluid replacement after exercise position stand
Drinking 2 glasses of water after a workout is usually fine and helps replace some sweat loss.
A glass is roughly 200-250 mL, so 2 glasses is about 400-500 mL. That may be enough after a short or light workout, especially in cool weather.
For a long, intense, or very sweaty workout:
Keep drinking gradually over the next few hours.
Eat a normal meal or snack to replace salt and energy.
Consider an electrolyte drink if you exercised for over about an hour in heat, or your clothes were soaked with sweat.
Do not force large amounts quickly. Stop if you feel bloated, nauseated, or unusually full. If you have heart failure, kidney disease, or have been told to restrict fluids, follow your clinician's advice instead.
A practical guide: drink to thirst and aim for pale-yellow urine later on.
