I am applying for us visa and i am general surgery resident what should i mention it in

You need to fill in the "Briefly describe your duties" field on the DS-160 form. Here is what to write as a general surgery resident:

Suggested text for "Briefly describe your duties":
Surgical resident physician performing clinical duties including pre-operative evaluation, intraoperative assistance and performance of general surgical procedures, post-operative patient care, and emergency surgical management. Responsibilities include patient assessment, ward rounds, documentation, and participation in academic teaching activities under consultant supervision.

Tips for the other fields visible on your form:
FieldWhat to enter
Employer/InstitutionName of your hospital or medical college (e.g., the teaching hospital where you are doing residency)
Job Title / Occupation"Resident Physician - General Surgery" or "Junior Resident Doctor"
Monthly IncomeYour stipend in Indian Rupees (you have 70,000 entered - that is fine if accurate)
Start DateThe date your residency program started
City/StateWhere your hospital is located
Additional notes:
  • Keep the description factual and concise - the field has a character limit.
  • Do not use abbreviations like "PGY" that the visa officer may not recognize; write out your role clearly.
  • If applying for a B1/B2 tourist or visitor visa, be ready to explain the purpose of your visit (conference, tourism, etc.) and show strong ties to India (your ongoing residency program is an excellent tie).
  • Your residency contract/appointment letter and a leave approval letter from your program director are good supporting documents to carry to the interview.
