Note on age: Engerix-B and Recombivax HB are approved at 1 mL for adults aged ≥20 years. For age 19 years, the 0.5 mL pediatric dose is used. Heplisav-B is approved for all adults ≥18 years.
Injection Site
- Deltoid muscle is the preferred site for adults - this gives the most reliable immune response.
- Gluteal injection is not recommended - it often deposits vaccine into fat rather than muscle, resulting in lower seroconversion rates.
- Intradermal route is not recommended due to less reliable immune response.
