Early ectopic development proceeds normally - placental tissue, amniotic sac, and decidual changes all form. With tubal pregnancies, the invading placenta eventually burrows through the wall of the fallopian tube, causing:

Clinical Features
Classic triad (present in only ~45% of cases):
