I made the handbook as a 14-page colorful PDF. I couldn't render the pages to look at them. I only checked the layout by page count (14, as expected) and by extracting the text, so give it a quick look when you open it.

What's inside
  • Cover and contents: The contents page shows all 24 words as colored tiles. It also has a short guide to the respelling and the abbreviations.
  • Word cards: Two words per page, each in its own color. The word is large and white on a bold colored header, with a numbered badge. Under the word are the respelling in brackets (stressed syllable in CAPITALS) and the part of speech.
  • Meanings: Each card gives the meaning in English first, then in Russian.
  • Examples: Each card has 3 everyday sentences, with the Russian translation in colored italics under each English sentence.
Words included (24)
  • Page 1 of "Language notes": strike dread, scramble around, moaning, scintillating, stave off, to your heart's content, plummeting, pamper, bliss.
  • Next page: guile and ingenuity, hurtle down, inflatable, scratching the surface, eye-watering, downright, daydreaming, *counter-intuitively, disparate, roaming (the streets), scrawling, pinpoint, crowding out, whine, take a leaf out of (someone's) book.
Notes
  • The English meanings follow your photo's wording. The Russian meanings, the sentences and their translations are mine.
  • The respellings are my own simple system, not an official dictionary one. Check any you're unsure of against a dictionary.
  • The asterisk on *counter-intuitively comes from the source. It marks a word students need for Exercise 3.
  • I read the words from the image myself. The automatic image-analysis tool failed on the file path, so I didn't use it.

PDF Document · PDF

I checked the layout by page count and by extracting the text. I couldn't render the pages to look at them, so open it and check the colors.
What's inside
  • Cover and contents: The contents page shows all 51 words as colored tiles, with a short guide to the respelling.
  • Word cards: Two words per page, each in its own color. The word is large and white on a bold colored header. Under it are the respelling in brackets (stressed syllable in CAPITALS), the part of speech, and which "Language notes" set it came from.
  • Meanings: English first, then Russian.
  • Examples: 3 everyday sentences per word, with the Russian translation under each English sentence.
Words taken only from the "Language notes" boxes
  • Language notes 1 (words 1-7, file page 1): read avidly, read widely, see the point, put off by, browsing round, flicking through, bestseller.
  • Language notes 2 (words 8-25, file page 2): weave, insights, compelling, altering, debut, darkly, let up, ghost-written, rags-to-riches, sequel, flawed, sharp-tongued, grief, masterpiece, insightful, partly, revolves around, portrayal.
  • Language notes 3 (words 26-51, file page 4): doomsayers, *clickbait, *hyperlinks, seductive, falling down the rabbit hole, stand up to scrutiny, if (something) is anything to go by, groaning, *stagnated, host, suspenseful, dissected, classics, *self-help book, instant best seller, jump on the bandwagon, *discoverability, flipside, reservations, celebrity-led, narrow, squeeze out, *wider reading, word of mouth, boosting, *romances.
Notes
  • File page 3: It only says "Language notes below" and has no list of its own. The list it points to is the one on file page 4.
  • Asterisks: An asterisk (*) means the source marks the word as needed for Exercise 9.
  • "darkly": The source labels it "adj", but it works as an adverb, so the card says "adj (used as adv)".
  • English meanings: They follow the file's wording.
  • Respellings, Russian text and sentences: These are mine. The respelling system is a simple one I made up, so check any you're unsure of against a dictionary.

Please describe the picture as per C1 proficiency test speaking practice using the vocabulary words from the handbook pdf created by you above recently.

Here is a model C1 speaking answer of about 1 to 2 minutes. The vocabulary from the handbook is in bold.

Model answer

Describing the scene
The photo shows a customer browsing round a huge second-hand bookshop. The caption says it's St George's in Berlin. We see the man from behind. He's bald and wearing a dark blazer and jeans. He's standing on a ladder and stretching up to pull a book off a high shelf. The wooden shelves fill the whole picture from floor to ceiling. The thousands of colorful spines look almost like a patchwork, and the lighting gives the shop a warm atmosphere.
Speculating
He may be looking for a particular title, perhaps one of the classics. Or he may simply be flicking through whatever catches his eye, since the shelves look so seductive. He seems to be concentrating, so I'd guess he's a keen reader who reads avidly. He could also be one of those people who read widely and enjoy wider reading beyond their usual interests. The shelves look packed, even groaning under the weight of so many books. That gives the shop a character that online stores can't match.
Linking to wider ideas
Shops like this show that the doomsayers were wrong to predict the death of reading. If this shop is anything to go by, readers still love holding a real book. Many bookshops depend on word of mouth, and they boost their sales through loyal customers.
The flipside is that such a huge choice can be overwhelming. Someone might be put off by the sheer number of titles, or end up falling down the rabbit hole of one shelf after another. In a shop this size, discoverability is also a problem, because a good debut novel can easily be hidden among the bestsellers and instant best sellers.
Personal opinion
I see the point of buying second-hand. It's cheaper and kinder to the environment. You also never know what you'll find, whether it's a compelling novel, a self-help book or a forgotten masterpiece. I'd definitely prefer this to scrolling through clickbait online.

I described the photo from what I can see in it, plus the caption. The speculation is my own guess, not something the photo tells us.
