Key Notes

  • Pentavalent vaccine combines DPT + Hepatitis B + Hib in a single injection, replacing individual antigens at 6, 10, and 14 weeks.
  • PCV* (Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine) is currently available in select states/districts: Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh (selected districts), and Haryana (state initiative).
  • JE vaccine* is given only in endemic districts after a campaign.
  • fIPV (fractional dose IPV) is given intradermally at 1/5th the IM dose, conserving vaccine supply while maintaining immunity.
  • OPV can be given up to 5 years of age; Pentavalent can be given up to 1 year.
  • Vitamin A supplementation: 1st dose at 9 months with MR; 2nd-9th doses every 6 months from 16-18 months up to 5 years.

2026 Updates to the UIP

Two notable additions as of early 2026 per the Press Information Bureau:
  1. Indigenously manufactured Td vaccine launched February 2026 (produced at CRI, Kasauli) - replacing TT in the schedule.
  2. Nationwide HPV vaccination campaign launched February 28, 2026, targeting 14-year-old girls (~1.15 crore) for free cervical cancer protection.

IAP (Indian Academy of Paediatrics) Additional Vaccines

Beyond the government NIS, IAP recommends these additional vaccines (not in UIP due to cost):
VaccineSchedule
MMR15 months, 4-6 years
Varicella15 months (or after 1 year)
Typhoid conjugate (TCV)9-12 months, then booster at 2 years
Hepatitis A12 months + booster at 18 months (killed) / single dose (live)
Influenza6 months onwards, annually
HPV9-14 years (2 doses); 15+ years (3 doses)
