What is the difference between knot and noose
| Feature | Knot (general) | Noose |
|---|---|---|
| Definition | Any fastening made by intertwining rope | A loop that tightens when the free end is pulled |
| Loop behavior | May or may not form a loop | Always forms a sliding, self-tightening loop |
| Purpose | Binding, securing, connecting | Trapping, hanging, lassoing |
| Examples | Square knot, bowline, cleat hitch | Slipknot, lasso, hangman's knot |
| Reversibility | Varies by type | The loop loosens when tension is released (in a basic slipknot) |
