Full Pathway: Pakistani Doctor to Residency in Qatar

Step 1 - Confirm Your Eligibility

Important: If you graduated before 2020, you are currently ineligible for the 2026-27 cycle.

Step 2 - Give the Required Exams

A) Clinical Knowledge Exam (pick one)

• IFOM (International Foundations of Medicine) is offered by NBME and can be taken at Prometric centers globally, including in Pakistan.
• Score validity: 2 years - so time it close to your application window.

B) English Language Exam (pick one)

• If you already hold a Qatar Residency Permit, a lower score (TOEFL 80, IELTS 6.5) is accepted at application but must be raised before program start.

C) Arabic Language Proficiency

• Self-reported at the application stage, but you must be able to demonstrate it if requested.
• Not all programs require it equally - check the specific program's requirements on HMC's "Programs and Seats Available" page.
• Start Arabic classes early - at least 1-2 years before applying. Enroll in a formal Arabic language course (many are available online via platforms like Mango Languages, Bayyinah, or local institutes).

Step 3 - Prepare Your Documents

Step 5 - Apply to HMC

• Category 2 (IMG) seats are only released after all local Qatari graduate (Category 1) applications are processed - slots are limited
• Apply through the HMC online portal
• Choose your specialty program (22 programs available including Internal Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, OB/GYN, Emergency Medicine, Psychiatry, Anesthesiology, etc.)

Step 6 - Selection Process

1. Application screening - documents and scores verified
2. Shortlisting - competitive; IMG seats are fewer than local seats
3. Interview - conducted by the respective department
4. Match/Offer of Employment - HMC issues an employment contract
5. QCHP/DHP Registration - once matched, you'll need to register with the Department of Healthcare Professions (formerly QCHP) to get your Qatar medical license

Step 7 - QCHP/DHP Licensing (Post-Match)

• Submit DataFlow PSV report (already done in Step 4)
• Submit all documents listed above
• Pay registration fees (approximately QAR 2,500-5,000)
• Timeline: 2-4 months
• You will receive a temporary license to start working while full registration is processed

3. IMG seats are scarce - Qatar prioritizes local graduates (WCM-Q and QU). Category 2 slots are released only after local needs are filled. Be realistic about competition.
