Ademetionine (SAMe) is a naturally occurring compound in the body. It acts as a methyl donor in many metabolic reactions and has hepatoprotective (liver-protecting), antidepressant, and joint-supporting properties.

When to Give Tab Sameral 400

1. Intrahepatic Cholestasis (Primary Indication)

  • Decreased bile flow from the liver (not caused by a blocked bile duct)
  • Cholestasis of Pregnancy - reduces itching (pruritus) and improves bile acid levels in pregnant women with this condition
  • Dose: 800 mg twice daily (800 mg BID orally)

2. Liver Disease / Hepatoprotection

  • Alcoholic liver disease - helps protect liver cells from toxic damage
  • Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD)
  • Liver cirrhosis - supports liver glutathione levels and reduces oxidative stress
  • Chronic hepatitis
  • Dose: 400-1600 mg/day orally
