- Topmost medicine for depressive insanity
- Self-condemnation is inborn
- Feels unwanted in society; even God cannot pardon him
- Very restless, anxious about the future; great desire for activity but cannot act fast enough
- Hurried, worried, uneasy, restless; irritable and peevish
- Least contradiction excites anger
- Low-spirited, lifeless with weak memory
- All mental affections are due to bad effects of mercury and syphilis

7. Particulars
Headache
- Cause: Least mental exertion, fear, fright, anger, contradiction, constipation
- Character: Intense congestive headache with heat; tearing pain through brain to forehead; boring and tearing in skull bones
- Modality: Worse from mental exertion; better in open air
- Concomitant: Falling of hair (especially in syphilitic and mercurial affections)
Eye
- Sees only the lower half of objects (compare: Lycopodium - sees only left half)
Heart
- Cause: Syphilitic and mercurial affection with scrofulous base
- Sensation: As if heart stood still / ceased to beat - stops 2-3 seconds then gives a sudden hard thump
- Character: Violent palpitation + anxiety; congestion of blood to head and chest after exertion; pain extends down left arm to fingers
- Pulse: small, feeble, rapid and irregular; visible beating of carotid and temporal arteries
- May have fatty degeneration and hypertrophy of heart (compare: Phos., Kali carb.)
Bones
- Cause: Syphilitic and mercurial affections
- Caries of mastoid, palate and nasal bones with terrible pain
- Otitis, otorrhoea, ozaena; excessive discharge with putrid/offensive smell
- Modality: Pain worse at night, driving patient to despair
Testes
- Undescended and undeveloped testes; like mere pendent shreds
- Found in pining boys who are low-spirited, lifeless, with weak memory and lacking "boyish-go"
Uterine Symptoms
- Prolapse of uterus from over-reaching or straining
- Prolapse due to uterus being heavy, hypertrophied and indurated (NOT from weakness of pelvic floor)
- Menstrual and uterine affections with great melancholy, aggravated during menstrual period
- Foul breath in girls at puberty

- Aggravation: Sunset to sunrise; cold air; getting cold; lying down; mental exertion; many complaints come on only in winter
