Can You Take Ibuprofen Now?

1. Paracetamol + Ibuprofen is a safe combination. They work by completely different mechanisms - paracetamol acts centrally, ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory (NSAID). The NHS confirms they can be taken together or alternated safely in adults 16+.
2. Timing is fine. It has been over 4 hours since your paracetamol - well within safe alternating guidelines.
3. Diazene (antacid) actually helps. Ibuprofen can irritate the stomach lining. Taking an antacid alongside or before ibuprofen is actually protective. However, if Diazene contains certain ingredients (like some antacids with magnesium/aluminium), take ibuprofen at least 1-2 hours apart from the antacid to avoid absorption interference.

Important Dosing Reminders

• Ibuprofen dose: 200-400 mg now. Maximum 400 mg three times a day.
• Always take ibuprofen WITH food or milk - do not take on an empty stomach, especially since you have acidity.
• Do not exceed: 8 paracetamol tablets (4g) or 1200 mg ibuprofen in 24 hours (OTC limits).

When to Be Cautious

• Do not take ibuprofen if you have: a stomach ulcer, asthma triggered by NSAIDs, kidney disease, or are pregnant.
• If your headache has not improved after taking both paracetamol and ibuprofen, or if it is very severe, sudden ("thunderclap"), or accompanied by stiff neck/visual changes, seek medical attention promptly.
