Nystatin Oral Drops - How to Use

Looking at your prescription, the doctor has written:
Nystatin Oral Drops - 3+3+3, 7 Days
This means 3 drops in the morning + 3 drops at noon + 3 drops at night for 7 days.

What is Nystatin Oral Drops?

Nystatin is an antifungal medicine used to treat oral thrush (a fungal/yeast infection inside the mouth, caused by Candida). It is prescribed here because your clinical record shows aphthous ulcers and inflamed tonsils, which can be accompanied by oral fungal infection.

How to Use Correctly

  1. Shake the bottle before each use.
  2. Use the dropper provided to measure the exact dose (3 drops).
  3. Place the drops inside the mouth - put half on each side of the mouth (left cheek and right cheek).
  4. Hold it in your mouth as long as possible - swish it around gently before swallowing. Do NOT spit it out.
  5. Do not eat or drink anything for 5-10 minutes after taking the drops, so the medicine stays in contact with the infection.
  6. Take it 3 times a day (morning, afternoon, night) - ideally after meals.
  7. Complete the full 7 days even if symptoms improve earlier, to prevent the infection from coming back.
