doc.build(story)
print("PDF built successfully.")
I ran out of time before finishing the PDF build, so here's where things stand and what's left.
What I've completed so far:
  1. Extracted idioms from your uploaded PDF ("English Idioms in Use – Advanced," intro chapters 1–5)
  2. Curated a final list of 23 idioms with full bilingual content ready: English meaning, Russian translation, 3 example sentences (EN+RU), and 3 conversation Q&A pairs (EN+RU) for each — saved in /tmp/workspace/idioms-handbook/data.py
  3. Written the PDF-generation script (build_pdf.py) using reportlab with Cyrillic-compatible fonts (DejaVu Sans) — includes a cover page, a Part 1 quick-reference list, and a Part 2 detailed study section
  4. Not yet done: actually running the script to generate the final PDF file, and verifying it renders correctly
The 23 idioms covered:
  1. Put your foot in it
  2. Take a shine to someone/something
  3. A flash in the pan
  4. Safe and sound
  5. Not see eye to eye
  6. Join forces
  7. Be in two minds
  8. Have a whale of a time
  9. Go cap in hand
  10. Foot the bill
  11. The apple of someone's eye
  12. Bury your head in the sand
  13. Sink like a stone
  14. Go up in the world
  15. Knock something into shape
  16. A domino effect
  17. Lick your wounds
  18. Run its course
  19. Like it or lump it
  20. Run a tight ship
  21. Beyond the pale
  22. The tip of the iceberg
  23. Make a mountain out of a molehill
Overview: All content (meanings, examples, Q&A) is already written and saved — the only remaining step is a technical one: executing the script to render the actual PDF file and confirming it opens correctly with proper Cyrillic text.
Would you like me to continue and finish generating the actual PDF file now?

C1 Idioms Handbook

PDF Document · PDF

— 19 pages
It contains:
  • Cover page explaining the handbook's purpose and source (based on English Idioms in Use – Advanced, Cambridge)
  • Part 1 – Quick Reference List: all 23 idioms with their English meanings in a clean table
  • Part 2 – Detailed Study for each of the 23 idioms:
    • English meaning + Russian translation underneath
    • 3 example sentences in English, each with a Russian translation underneath
    • 3 logical conversation questions with model answers, all with Russian translations underneath
Idioms covered: put your foot in it, take a shine to, a flash in the pan, safe and sound, not see eye to eye, join forces, be in two minds, have a whale of a time, go cap in hand, foot the bill, the apple of someone's eye, bury your head in the sand, sink like a stone, go up in the world, knock something into shape, a domino effect, lick your wounds, run its course, like it or lump it, run a tight ship, beyond the pale, the tip of the iceberg, and make a mountain out of a molehill.
Let me know if you'd like me to add more idioms from later units of the source book, adjust formatting, or produce a matching answer-key/quiz version for classroom use.
