Here's everything you need:
Pre-Departure Checklist Flowchart
Most Important Points from the Guide
✅ 1. Your Pack Activates Automatically — But Only Once You're Abroad
The IR US Mexico & Australia Pack (₹2555) auto-activates on your first international usage — the moment you make a call, send an SMS, or use data while roaming. You don't press any button. It just starts.
✅ 2. Countries Covered by Your Pack
Your ₹2555 pack covers 5 countries only: USA, Mexico, Australia, and 2 others in that group. If you're traveling outside these, this pack does nothing — you'd be charged without an active pack.
⚠️ 3. Disable Call Forwarding BEFORE You Leave — Critical
If call forwarding is ON on your number, incoming calls will get redirected instead of reaching you abroad. This is a silent killer — you'll miss calls and not know why. Turn it off:
- iPhone: Settings → Phone → Call Forwarding → OFF
- Android (Samsung): Phone → Settings → Supplementary Services → Call Forwarding → Disable
⚠️ 4. Network Mode Must Be Set to Auto, Not LTE Only
If your phone is locked to LTE/VoLTE only, it may fail to connect abroad. Change it to:
- Android: Settings → Mobile Networks → Network Mode → LTE/GSM/WCDMA (Auto Connect)
- iPhone: Settings → Mobile Data → Network Selection → Automatic ON
✅ 5. Enable Data Roaming
Sounds obvious but easy to forget:
- iPhone: Settings → Mobile Data → [Your SIM] → Data Roaming: ON
- Android: Settings → Mobile Networks → Data Roaming: ON
💡 6. Save Data — Disable Cloud Auto-Sync
15 GB sounds like a lot, but auto-sync can eat through it fast. Before landing:
- Turn OFF auto-upload in Google Photos, WhatsApp, Dropbox, Google Drive, Facebook
- Use secure Wi-Fi at hotels/airports for heavy usage
💡 7. Wi-Fi Calling — Know the Limitation
Wi-Fi calling lets you make/receive calls over Wi-Fi without using your roaming minutes. But: outgoing Wi-Fi calls are only allowed to India. You can receive calls from anywhere. Also — if you want to switch to mobility (regular roaming), disable Wi-Fi calling first, then disable Wi-Fi.
⚠️ 8. Emergency Call Caution — Seriously Don't Ignore This
The guide specifically warns: long-pressing numeric keys or the power button on some phones triggers an emergency call. In many countries, making false emergency calls has strict legal penalties. Be careful when your phone is in your pocket abroad.
🆘 9. Support if Something Goes Wrong
- Call/WhatsApp: +91 7018899999
- Email: care@jio.com
- MyJio App: Live Chat
If you land and your data isn't working, go to: Settings → Mobile Networks → Access Point Names → manually enter APN as Jionet
Quick Quiz — Let's Test You 🧪
Answer these and I'll tell you if you're on the right track:
Q1. You just landed in the US. Your IR pack is in the "Upcoming" tab. What do you do to activate it?
Q2. You're trying to use mobile data abroad but calls work fine. What's one thing you can check/fix on your phone?
Q3. Your friend in India is calling you but it's going to voicemail. What setting on your Jio number is likely the culprit?
Q4. You want to video call your family back home over hotel Wi-Fi to save your IR minutes. Can you do that using Wi-Fi calling?
Q5. Your phone is set to "LTE Only" network mode. You land abroad. What's likely to happen?
Take a shot at any or all — no pressure! 😄
