The malaria parasite (Plasmodium spp.) has a digenetic life cycle - two hosts are required:

Phase 1 - IN THE HUMAN HOST

A. Hepatic (Exo-erythrocytic) Schizogony - Liver Stage

  2. Sporozoites travel via blood to the liver (hepatocytes) within 30-60 minutes
  3. In liver cells: sporozoites undergo schizogony (asexual multiplication) → form liver schizonts
