Composition

What it is used for

• Secondary prevention of cardiovascular events in patients who have already had:
  • Heart attack (myocardial infarction)
  • Ischemic stroke
  • Unstable angina
  • Other forms of coronary artery disease (CAD)
• Reduction of LDL cholesterol (via rosuvastatin - a statin)
• Prevention of blood clot formation (via aspirin + clopidogrel - dual antiplatelet therapy)

How the three drugs work

1. Rosuvastatin - HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (statin). Lowers LDL and triglycerides, raises HDL, stabilizes atherosclerotic plaques.
2. Clopidogrel - P2Y12 ADP receptor antagonist. Irreversibly inhibits platelet aggregation by blocking ADP-mediated activation.
3. Aspirin - COX-1 inhibitor. Irreversibly inhibits thromboxane A2 production, reducing platelet stickiness.

How to take it

• Take with or after food to reduce stomach upset.
• Taken once daily, at the same time each day.
• Prescription required (Rx-only).

Side Effects

• Mild stomach discomfort / nausea
• Easy bruising
• Mild muscle aches
• Headache

• Unexplained or severe muscle pain/weakness (myopathy/rhabdomyolysis - statin risk)
• Dark urine (myoglobinuria)
• Unusual or prolonged bleeding (antiplatelet effect)
• Severe stomach/abdominal pain (GI bleed risk)

Important Drug Interactions

• Other blood thinners (warfarin, heparin) - increased bleeding risk
• NSAIDs (ibuprofen, diclofenac) - increased GI bleed risk
• Antifungals / certain antibiotics - can raise rosuvastatin levels (statin toxicity risk)

Contraindications / Caution

• Active bleeding or peptic ulcer
• Severe liver or kidney disease
• Pregnancy / breastfeeding
• Known hypersensitivity to any component
• Patients on anticoagulants (requires close monitoring)
