Subject-Wise Coverage

Questions span the entire MBBS curriculum across three tiers:
  • Pre-clinical: Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry
  • Para-clinical: Pathology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Forensic Medicine
  • Clinical: Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Ophthalmology, ENT, Orthopaedics, Psychiatry, Dermatology, Radiology, Anaesthesia, Community Medicine
Clinical subjects carry the highest weightage overall.

Scoring Tips & Strategy

1. Negative Marking Math - Understand the Break-Even

  • For SBA: You need >75% accuracy to benefit from attempting (because 3 wrong = -1 mark, 1 correct = +1 mark).
  • For MTF: You need >83% accuracy per assertion.
  • 30 wrong answers = -10 marks, which can shift your rank by 300-500 positions.
Rule of thumb: Attempt only if you can eliminate at least 2 of 4 options.

2. Smart Attempt Strategy

  • Attempt: Questions where you are confident or can eliminate 2 options.
  • Skip: Questions where you have no idea - leave them blank (0 marks beats -1/3).
  • MTF caution: Do not guess individual true/false assertions - each wrong assertion costs you marks independently.

3. Time Management (45 min per section)

  • Target ~22-23 seconds per question average.
  • Do not get stuck - mark for review and move on.
  • Each section is time-locked, so you cannot carry over time between parts.

4. High-Yield Topic Focus

High-frequency topics across past papers:
  • Medicine: Cardiology, Neurology, Endocrinology (especially thyroid, diabetes)
  • Surgery: Surgical oncology, laparoscopy, anastomoses
  • Pathology: Tumor markers, histopathology of common cancers
  • Pharmacology: Mechanisms, adverse effects, newer drugs
  • Microbiology: Lab diagnosis, culture characteristics
  • Anatomy: Clinical anatomy, nerve supply

5. Preparation Tips

  • Solve at least 3-4 previous year INICET/AIIMS papers to understand question style.
  • Take timed full-length mocks weekly - practice the 45-min per section constraint.
  • INICET questions tend to be more concept-based and clinical reasoning-oriented compared to NEET-PG, which was more factual.
  • Review wrong answers thoroughly - this is where rank improvement happens.
  • Target score of 140+/200 for a competitive rank at top AIIMS campuses. AIR 1 in May 2025 scored 168/200.

6. Day of Exam

  • Log in a few minutes before the exam starts.
  • Rough sheets are provided at the centre.
  • No electronic devices, watches, or stationery allowed.
  • Carry admit card, original photo ID, and MCI registration copy.

Quick summary: 200 MCQs | 3 hours | 4 sections of 45 min each | +1 correct, -1/3 SBA wrong, -1/5 MTF wrong | Accuracy over attempts = better rank.
