glutathione dose supplementation safety NIH

There is no established standard dose of glutathione because its benefit depends on why you are taking it and the formulation.
For general oral supplement use, products and small studies commonly use:
  • 250 to 500 mg by mouth once daily
  • Sometimes 500 to 1,000 mg/day, often divided into 1 to 2 doses, but this should be clinician-guided rather than routine self-treatment.
Important points:
  • Oral glutathione may be broken down in the gut, and NIH information notes that it generally does not reliably increase intracellular glutathione. Liposomal or sublingual preparations may behave differently, but evidence and dosing standards remain limited.
  • IV glutathione is not a routine wellness or skin-lightening treatment. It should only be administered under a licensed clinician for a clear medical indication. Avoid unregulated injections.
  • Do not use it for skin lightening without medical advice. Evidence for this use is limited, and injection-related harm can be serious.
  • Check with a clinician or pharmacist first if you are pregnant/breastfeeding, have asthma, liver or kidney disease, take chemotherapy, or use multiple medicines.
What is your goal: antioxidant supplement, skin pigmentation, fertility, a liver-related condition, or something else? The appropriate advice differs.
