Ab main answer de raha hoon - image ka content clearly samajh aaya aur Katzung's pharmacology textbook se bhi additional content mila hai.
π SECTION 5: Hormones and Related Drugs β Introduction
(Simple Hindi + English Explanation with Notes from Other Pharmacology Books)
π· Hormone kya hota hai? (What is a Hormone?)
Hormone - Greek word "hormaein" se aaya hai, jiska matlab hai "to stir up" yaani "jagana" ya "uthana".
Aasaan bhasha mein: Hormone ek chemical messenger hota hai jo body ke specific cells dwara banaya jaata hai, khoon ke zariye poori body mein travel karta hai, aur apne target cells pe action karta hai.
Yaad karo: Hormone = Body ka WhatsApp Message - ek jagah se bheja, doosri jagah pe action hota hai! π±
π· Hormones kya kaam karte hain?
| Body Function | Hormone (regulator) |
|---|
| β½ Fuel ki availability | Insulin, Glucagon, Growth Hormone |
| π₯ Metabolism ki speed | Triiodothyronine (T3), Thyroxine (T4) |
| π Shareerik vikas (Growth) | Growth Hormone, Insulin-like growth factors |
| πΆ Sex & Reproduction | Gonadotropins, Estrogens, Progesterone |
| π©Έ Blood volume | Aldosterone, ADH (Antidiuretic Hormone) |
| π° Stress se ladna | Glucocorticoids, Adrenaline |
| 𦴠Calcium balance | Parathormone, Calcitonin, Vitamin D |
π· Hormones kahan se aate hain? (Endocrine Glands)
Endocrine glands = ductless glands - yaani in glands ke paas koi nali (duct) nahi hoti, hormone seedha khoon mein chale jaate hain.
1. π§ Pituitary Gland (Master Gland)
Yaad karo: Pituitary = Body ka "Prime Minister" - baaki sab glands ko command deta hai!
(a) Anterior Pituitary (Aagla hissa):
- GH - Growth Hormone (bachon ka growth)
- Prolactin (Prl) - Breast milk banana
- ACTH (Adrenocorticotropic hormone) - Adrenal gland ko activate karta hai
- TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) - Thyroid ko jagata hai
- FSH (Follicle Stimulating Hormone) - Ovary/testes mein follicle banata hai
- LH (Luteinizing Hormone) - Ovulation aur testosterone release
(b) Posterior Pituitary (Pichhla hissa):
- Oxytocin - Labor (prasav) ke time uterus contract karta hai, milk let-down
- ADH/Vasopressin - Pani ki bachath (kidney mein paani reabsorb karta hai)
2. π¦ Thyroid Gland (Butterfly ke aakaar ki gland)
- T4 (Thyroxine) - Metabolism control
- T3 (Triiodothyronine) - T4 ka active form, zyada powerful
- Calcitonin - Blood calcium kam karta hai (calcium ko haddion mein bhejta hai)
Trick: T3 aur T4 = "Metabolism ke DJ" - body ki energy aur speed control karte hain π΅
3. π΅ Parathyroid Gland
- PTH (Parathyroid Hormone / Parathormone) - Blood calcium badhata hai
4. π¬ Pancreas (Islets of Langerhans)
- Insulin (Beta cells se) - Blood sugar GHATATA hai - glucose cells mein bhejta hai
- Glucagon (Alpha cells se) - Blood sugar BADHATA hai - liver se glucose release karta hai
Trick: Insulin = INternal rakho sugar ko (cells mein), Glucagon = GLUCose ko bahar karo π
5. π« Adrenal Glands (Kidney ke upar, 2 hote hain)
(a) Cortex (Bahri teh - "C for Cortex, C for Corticosteroids"):
- Glucocorticoids (hydrocortisone) - Stress response, inflammation kam karta hai
- Mineralocorticoids (Aldosterone) - Salt aur water balance
- Sex steroids (DHEA - Dehydroepiandrosterone) - Androgen precursor
(b) Medulla (Andar ka hissa):
- Adrenaline (Epinephrine) - Fight or flight response
- Noradrenaline (Norepinephrine) - Blood pressure maintain karta hai
Trick: Medulla = "Emergency room" - jab dar lage ya bhaagna ho! πββοΈ
6. 𧬠Gonads (Sex glands)
| Gonads | Hormones |
|---|
| Testes (purush) | Androgens (Testosterone) |
| Ovaries (stri) | Estrogens (Estradiol), Progestins (Progesterone) |
7. π§ Hypothalamus (Brain ka hissa - gland nahi, but hormones banata hai!)
Hypothalamus Releasing and Inhibitory Hormones banata hai jo Anterior Pituitary ko control karte hain:
| Hypothalamic Hormone | Kya karta hai |
|---|
| TRH | TSH release karta hai |
| CRH | ACTH release karta hai |
| GHRH | GH release karta hai |
| GnRH | FSH + LH release karta hai |
| Dopamine (DA) | Prolactin ko ROKTA hai |
| Somatostatin (SST) | GH ko ROKTA hai |
8. π€° Placenta (Pregnancy mein)
| Hormone |
|---|
| Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) |
| Estrogens |
| Progesterone |
| Prolactin |
| Placental Lactogen |
| Chorionic Thyrotropin |
π GOOD NOTE from Other Pharmacology Books
π Katzung's Basic & Clinical Pharmacology (16th Ed.) - Added Note:
Hypothalamic-Pituitary Axis ka concept (Katzung Chapter 37):
Pituitary gland ka weight sirf 0.6 gram hota hai lekin ye sella turcica (ek haddion ka ghar) mein brain ke base pe baith ke poori body ko control karta hai.
Portal Venous System ek special blood supply hai jo hypothalamus se directly anterior pituitary tak hormones pahunchata hai - ye ek "private highway" jaisi hai hypothalamus aur pituitary ke beech! π£οΈ
Negative Feedback Loop: Jab peripheral gland (thyroid, adrenal, etc.) zyada hormone banata hai, to woh pituitary aur hypothalamus ko "bas karo!" ka signal deta hai. Ye homeostasis maintain karta hai.
π Goodman & Gilman's (Pharmacological Basis of Therapeutics) - Added Note:
Hormones teen tarah se kaam karte hain:
- Endocrine action - Door ke cells pe (blood ke zariye) π©Έ
- Paracrine action - Paas ke cells pe (local mein) π€
- Autocrine action - Apne hi cell pe wapas kaam karta hai π
Pharmacologically, hum hormones use karte hain as:
- Replacement therapy (e.g., hypothyroidism mein thyroxine dena)
- Suppression therapy (e.g., oral contraceptives mein estrogen-progesterone dena)
- Diagnostic tools (stimulation/suppression tests)
π Lippincott's Illustrated Reviews: Pharmacology - Added Note:
Mnemonic for Anterior Pituitary Hormones:
"FLAT PEG"
- F - FSH (Follicle Stimulating Hormone)
- L - LH (Luteinizing Hormone)
- A - ACTH (Adrenocorticotropic Hormone)
- T - TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone)
- P - Prolactin
- E - Endorphins (MSH bhi)
- G - GH (Growth Hormone)
Posterior Pituitary = "ADH + Oxytocin" (sirf 2 hormones hai - yaad rakhna easy hai!)
