A sensible project should not rely on claiming that a drug has “never” been studied. The defensible standard is: no relevant direct study was identified in the databases searched up to a specified date, followed by a reproducible list of search terms and databases. In practice, a strong M.Pharm project usually tests a generic drug with a clear non-acid-suppressive rationale in a model that complements that rationale, then measures ulcer index, oxidative-stress markers, inflammatory markers, and histology.
The highest-yield place to begin is usually candidate identification plus rigorous novelty screening, because a seemingly attractive repurposing idea can be unsuitable if it has already been tested in ethanol, NSAID, or pylorus-ligation ulcer models. After that, the protocol can be tailored to the most defensible candidate.
