Necroptosis is a regulated, caspase-independent form of cell death mediated by the RIPK1-RIPK3-MLKL axis. MLKL-mediated membrane disruption releases intracellular danger signals, promoting inflammation. This pathway is summarized in Robbins, Cotran & Kumar Pathologic Basis of Disease, pp. 58-59.
